Online Grocery Delivery Service is divided into different segments. We have Tesco and Sainsburys providing Grocery Delivery to their online visitors and the regular customers. On the other hand, there are some delivery partners providing delivery for the retailers. There are also some online grocery supermarkets in the UK such as Ocado.
Ocado’s grocery delivery division enjoyed a bump in order numbers in the past three months as it joined forces with Marks & Spencer and shrugged off the impact of a huge warehouse fire earlier this year. Ocado Retail – the division formed as part of a new £750million joint venture with M&S – said weekly orders rose by more than 12 per cent during the period, thanks in part to increased delivery slots.
UK spending on online grocery shopping in 2018 hit £12.3bn, up 9% from 2017, according to London-based market research company Mintel.
Mintel said UK online grocery spend is expected to hit £13.6bn this year. It also forecast online purchases to account for 10% of all grocery shopping over the next five years. Sales increasing by 60% to £19.8m in 2023.
The research showed a decrease in consumers. The number of consumers shopping online for groceries fell to 45% from 48% between 2015 and 2018. Furthermore, British consumers surveyed, 61% aged between 25-34 years old participated in online grocery shopping. Around 27% saying they do all or most of their grocery shopping online.
Those aged 45 and over said they purchase some groceries online (35%). On the other hand, the number of British people in this age range who have no interest in online grocery shopping increased. This was an increase to 42% in 2018 from 34% in 2015.
The market has just announced the launch of its online shopping service. They’ve teamed up with Bath based company who are running the system for them. According to their research, every pound you spend with a local independent producer has a 60% greater benefit to your local community than spending it with a large supermarket.
There are currently 29 stallholders that are part of the initial project. Including Cannon and Cannon, Ted’s Veg and the Parma Ham and Mozzarella folk, with more on the way. They only cover 1.5 miles delivery radius.
This concept is clearly showing the huge importance of Online Delivery Services in the grocery shopping in the day to day life of Londoners. Some companies such as Peyk have found a gap in the market in grocery shopping and willing to invest in that niche market. By using Peyk, you can simply deliver every product from any point in London to your step door in less than one hour. This one hour is guaranteed by the company and their average delivery time is less than 35 minutes.
