Time Poverty Is The Most Significant Poverty In The UK.

Time poverty is a type of poverty which affects us all. The daunting idea of running out of time is manifested in two main ways. It’s either in everyday life, such as feeling like you don’t have time to go to the gym, or something a bit more existential, such as feeling like you’re running out of time to find your life purpose. Either one is valid and understandable in today’s fast-paced society – especially in such a restless city like London.
Most of our days consist of waking up early to a mildly exciting breakfast, followed by a gruelling journey to work and then obsessively checking the time until it’s time to go. Only to then repeat the same gruelling journey home, and having a half-cold microwaved dinner followed by an early night because you need to wake up early to repeat it all over again tomorrow.
Funnily enough, if you had asked anyone during the early 1900s, they would have promised you without a doubt that the future holds a leisure-filled neverland, where working hours are short, and relaxation is abundant. This is exactly what the economist John Maynard Keynes predicted – that we’d be too busy enjoying life to even think about work. Obviously, his predictions were wrong, as bringing work home with you has become the norm, and a quick drink after work can feel like the equivalent of a holiday.
However, that doesn’t mean that we are in all ways bound to capitalism and the insistent need to make money. Instead, it simply means that as a society we must adapt and learn the beauty of multi-tasking.
It means ordering your dinner on the train back home from work, with the guarantee of it being as hot as you want it. It is having your toothbrush delivered to your significant other’s house, so that you don’t miss a single second of being with each other. It also indicates surprising your mum with homemade brownies doesn’t require missing out on your beauty rest. It means having your gym clothes delivered to you at work, so that you have no reason to not get your work-out in for the day. It means getting important documents delivered at the last minute, doesn’t make you feel like it’s the end of the world. Simply put, it means that you get to live your life with a little more ease and time, because Peyk can be there when you can’t.
